LOCAL BUSINESS LEADER SETH GROSS RECEIVES
Seth Gross, a prominent Northeastern Pennsylvania Businessman and Civic Activist received today, the Amos Lodge B'nai B'rith Man of the Year Award at a Brunch in his honor at the Scranton Jewish Community Center. Over 175 attended the prestigious morning event. Master of Ceremonies of the event was Attorney David Fallk. Amos Lodge president, Allan Davidson, opened the proceedings with the pledege of allegiance. Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn of Temple Israel followed with the traditional H'amotzi. Special guest speaker was Mark Silverberg, Executive Director of the NEPA Jewish Federation. In accepting the award, Seth spoke eloquently on the importance of volunteerism. ABOUT SETH GROSS: He received the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1967 and the Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1970, was past president of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of CPCU, and has taught classes for the CPCU designation. Mr. Gross has served as president of the Scranton Lions Club, Lackawanna Audubon Society, Jewish Family Service of Lackawanna County, Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Temple Israel of Scranton and the Scranton Jewish Community Center. He is president of the Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He serves on the boards of Jewish Family Service, the JCC and Temple Israel. He served on the board of the Scranton Hebrew Day School, when his daughters attended the school, was on United Way Allocations panels for three years and was chairman of allocations for two years. He has also worked on the Pennsylvania Film Festival/Scranton Tomorrow Committee and the First Night Celebration. Mr. Gross received the Scranton Jewish Community Center Young Leadership Award in 1981, its Man of the Year Award in 1990, and its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. He is married to the former Sheryl Jacobowitz of Pittsburgh. They have two daughters, Rachel Gross, who is married to H.P. Baker, and Shoshana Gross, who is married to Sandy Bodzin; and three grandchildren. |

SAM ROSEN NAMEDAMOS LODGE, B'NAI B'RITH 2006 MAN OF THE YEAR (Scranton, PA, Sep 30, 2006) Sam Rosen, prominent Scranton Businessman and Holocaust survivor has been named the 2006 Amos Lodge B'nai B'rith Man Of The Year and will he will receive the prestigious award, at a breakfast in his honor, on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Scranton JCC. Click Here for details and additional information. About Sam Rosen: Sam Rosen, born in Czechoslovakia, is a survivor of the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, he lost 13 members of his immediate family. Rosen has tirelessly told his story to students of all ages, church congregations, civic groups and any one who would listen. What makes his version so unique is that he relates his story with no bitterness, hatred or animosity. He looks at the world with hope, wakes up with a smile and sees each new day as a gift from God. He greets every one with a warm smile and his optimistic outlook on life is contagious. Rosen arrived in the United States in 1948 with his wife Olga (of blessed memory). They moved to Scranton and have been involved in our Jewish community ever since. They had two sons, Raymond and Steven, both of whom are married with children. He has a wonderful relationship with his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sam joined the National Pretzel Company, now known as Anderson Pretzels Company, and continues to work with it as an independent food broker. Rosen joined Temple Israel of Scranton in 1950 and served on its board for 20 years. Having served on many different committees, he is most proud of serving on the Mitzvah Committee, where he organizes minyans and often serves as the prayer leader when needed. In addition, Rosen has served on the boards of The Jewish Home, Jewish Family Service, and The Jewish Federation, where he was a campaign captain for 20 years. He is very involved with the Education Committee of the Holocaust Resource Education Center and is on the Advisory Board of the Assistance Service to Holocaust Survivors. Through the Jewish Federation, he established the Olga and Sam Rosen Holocaust Education Foundation. For 16 years, he has been Scranton's representative to the Governor's Yom Hashoah Commemoration in Harrisburg and is an active member with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. He was a moving force behind the creation of the local Holocaust Memorial which stands on the grounds of the Scranton JCC. He speaks frequently at Holocaust programs and is a founder of the Teen Symposium on the Holocaust, now in its eighteenth year. Rosen is a member of B'nai B'rith, the Zionist Organization of America and the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen of Scranton. In June of this year, he received the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Award for distinguished community service from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Amos Lodge 136 B'nai B'rith in its 136th year is the Scranton Pennsylvania premier Jewish service organization.
